Lori Carlson

Executive Director

Lori has lived in Licking County for 25 years. She graduated from Wittenberg University and from Keller Graduate School of Management with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. Lori worked in child protective services from 1985-2012, both in Fairfield and Licking County.

Lori began with LCHS 8 years ago as a volunteer. She was later invited to join the Board of Directors, and eventually, served as the president of the Board. In 2012, Lori left the Board and accepted the newly created Executive Director position with LCHS.

In Lori’s spare time, she enjoys listening to music and spending time with her husband, 2 adult children, and 4 dogs who were rescued from various places-3 standard poodles and a pit bull mix. Lori’s favorite thing about working at LCHS is being given the opportunity to see the good in people!

Sue Rutledge

Shelter Operations Manager

Sue has been a dedicated member of the LCHS team for 9 years. She started at LCHS as an Animal Care Giver, was promoted to the Adoption Coordinator position, and then promoted again as the Shelter Manager. Her favorite thing about working at LCHS is, “saving lives, plain and simple.” Sue is a Mom to 8 rescue pets, and in her spare time she enjoys being with family, painting, and gardening.

Susanna Snyder

Development Officer

Susanna has 17 years of experience working in the non-profit sector, a Master’s degree in counseling/art therapy, and a passion for animal welfare. Susanna started working at LCHS in February 2016 as the Volunteer & Event Coordinator, and loved connecting people to the opportunity to enrich their lives through service. In October 2017, Susanna was promoted to Development Officer. She is grateful to be a part of two important missions that are close to her heart, animal welfare and local non-profit fundraising. In her spare time Susanna enjoys gardening, walking in the woods, and spending time with her 4-year-old, 9 pound dog named Cash. Susanna adopted Cash from LCHS in April 2016, and cannot imagine her life without him!

Laurinda Johnson

Volunteer & Community Outreach Coordinator

Laurinda started her journey at LCHS in 2015 as a volunteer and kitten foster parent. A year later, she was hired as an Animal Care Giver. On September 1, 2016, Laurinda was promoted to the role of Adoption Counselor. On September 18, 2017, Laurinda was promoted again to the role of Volunteer & Community Outreach Coordinator. Laurinda has a Bachelor’s of Arts in English Literature, so naturally she loves writing and reading in her spare time. She also enjoys the outdoors, horseback riding, kayaking, and camping. She is a vegetarian and the proud mom of 2 cats! What she likes most about working at LCHS is experiencing the positive impact LCHS makes in the lives of animals and people every single day.

Mia started working at LCHS as a janitor in July, 2014 and says that she hardly knew anything about animals. Throughout her time at LCHS, she learned about animal care and is now our registered veterinary technician! It warms Mia’s heart to help animals in need and watch them get adopted into good homes. She loves and appreciates all who volunteer, foster, and donate to LCHS!

Gretchen has spent over a decade working at animal shelters and vet hospitals. She has a dog and 3 rescue cats at home. In her spare time, Gretchen likes to play tennis and mow the lawn. She has worked at LCHS since 2012, and looks forward to many more years working for this great organization!

Paula Evans

Humane Agent

Paula has been passionate about animal rescue her entire life, and has been a longtime advocate for animal welfare in Licking County. In 1999, Paula founded her rescue organization, 2nd Chance Humane Society. In 2010, Paula became the Humane Agent for the Licking County Humane Society. She investigates alleged animal cruelty cases and educates the public on animal responsibility.

Jackie has been working at LCHS since April of 2013. She started as a dedicated volunteer and dog walker before she was hired as an Animal Care Giver. On September 1, 2016, Jackie was promoted to the role of Adoption Counselor. Jackie loves watching the animals find their forever homes and enjoys being part of such a caring and compassionate staff! Jackie has two dogs and a cat at home who are all rescues, and has fostered several animals throughout the years. When not working, she is busy spending time with her rambunctious, young son.

Sena Wingeier

Data Entry Clerk & Receptionist

Sena started working at LCHS in October 2016. She has always been an animal lover, and decided life was too short not to follow her passion for animal welfare. Sena loves working at LCHS because she feels like part of a family that is working for the same cause, saving lives and finding the perfect match for homeless animals.

In her spare time, Sena enjoys being with her family, DIY projects, photography, being outdoors, target shooting, and working on home and car repairs with her husband. Sena has three dogs at home, Obi the Lab, Bella the Pug, and Jake the Pug(who she adopted from LCHS).

Connie has worked at LCHS as a part-time bookkeeper since 2014. She lives near Alexandria, Ohio with her husband of 45 years, 4 dogs, and 1 cat. Most of Connie’s spare time is spent with her grown children and 4 grandkids.

Zak Cartwright

In 2014, Zak started as a volunteer at LCHS. A month later, he was hired to help with janitorial work and animal care giving. When the data entry position opened, Zak jumped at the chance. Zak graduated from Granville High School and enrolled in DeVry University’s Computer Engineering Technology program. For Zak, working at LCHS doesn’t even feel like a job because of his supportive team of coworkers. In Zak’s spare time he likes to play video games and spend time with his families’ 6 dogs, 8 cats, and snake.

Jenna Gorham - Licking County Human Society

Jenna Gorham

Animal Caregiver

Jenna began working with the Licking County Humane Society as an Animal Caregiver in May of 2018. Jenna has always enjoyed working with and for animals, and helping homeless pets find their forever homes is something she is very passionate about. She has been a Vet Assistant for the past 15 years and owns several pets of her own: 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a horse. When Jenna is not dedicating her time to animal welfare, she spends her time hiking, kayaking, and horseback riding.

Gayle Mulvey

Dog Training Instructor

Gayle started training dogs at the age of 14 and got her first Companion Dog title at 16, as young as the AKC allowed at the time. She went on to get Open and Utility titles with her Sheltie, who she took to college. Over the years, Gayle has competed and/or participated in AKC obedience, Schutzhund, field trials, agility, Rally-O and freestyle. She worked at PetSmart for ten and half years as the Area Trainer (training trainers), and taught approximately 16 classes a week. A passion for training and watching people enjoy their dogs is Gayle’s priority. She uses positive reinforcement and creates an upbeat and fun atmosphere in her classes. Gayle has trained well over 150 dog-and-parent “teams” to become Canine Good Citizens and Therapy Dogs, and relishes having her former students bring joy to others. Gayle has been with the Licking County Humane Society for the past three years and loves being affiliated with this wonderful organization, staff, and volunteers.

Steve began working at LCHS in the Spring of 2017, because he loves to spend time with animals. Steve has a history of working with dogs as a groomer and a history of working with cats as a Maine Coon breeder and Cat Show competitor. In Steve’s spare time, he enjoys golfing and spending time with his English Springer Spaniel and his five Maine Coon cats. Steve truly loves animals: “They help me relax at home, and let me know that I am loved.”

Amanda Wintgens

In February 2015, Amanda started working at LCHS as an Animal Care Giver. Amanda left for two years to explore new job opportunities, but she just had to return to what she loved to do most: watching the dogs and cats of LCHS, who have been through a lot of trauma, heal and trust again. Amanda is a graduate from Zane State College and studied Criminal Justice and Corrections. She has a little girl named Kinsley and a little boy named Kolt. In Amanda’s spare time she enjoys planning her August 2019 wedding, four-wheeling, cooking, and watching the Food Network. Amanda also loves to spend time with her pit bulls named Dozer and Kevlar, dachshund mix named Chevy, her new rescue micro-mini bulldog Cheese, and her two cats, Mittens and Raisin.

Emily came to work at Licking County Humane Society on July 3rd, 2018, as an Animal Caregiver. She wanted to be more involved with animal rescue after a decade spent at a desk during her career in digital technology and project management.

Emily has seven rescue pets at home and loves learning about animal behavior and training. She is a voracious reader and likes to explore new subjects, especially about science and philosophy. Emily loves pinball and board games, and she is on the path to ordination in the Rinzai Zen tradition. Her mission in life is to teach compassion for all sentient beings.

Erin has been working with, and for, animals since 2004. She worked in the kennel area of a pet store for a year, then earned a Career Diploma for Veterinary Assistance in 2009 from the Penn Foster Career school. She began working for LCHS as an Animal Caregiver in January 2018. Erin loves all animals, but cats hold a special place in her heart. She only has one cat, Jack, but she has rescued cats most of her life from neglectful situations.

Looking for a great work experience and new opportunities, Harley found an amazing fit when she began working at LCHS in January 2019. Harley has always loved visiting LCHS and jumped at the chance to work here. She has an associates degree in Applied Science in Wildlife Conservation and she is a certified BSA Lifeguard. In her spare time, Harley enjoys painting and rehabilitating wildlife.

Kathleen began working for the Licking County Humane Society in June 2018. Kathleen’s passion for caring for animals and finding them forever homes causes her to truly enjoy her work for LCHS. In the past, Kathleen has worked for a humane society in Florida, as well as an animal sanctuary and wildlife rescue. She has cared for all kinds of animals, from baby raccoons to horses to camels. In her spare time, Kathleen enjoys horseback riding, walking in the woods with her three dogs, kayaking, and reading.

Lucy started volunteering at LCHS, dog walking and morning cleaning, before she became an Animal Caregiver in July 2016. Lucy has always loved animals, and she even adopted a cat (Bolin) and a dog (Wylie) from LCHS! Lucy is a sophomore at OSU, majoring in Animal Science. She hopes to become a veterinarian, and values all the experience she is gaining at LCHS. In her free time, Lucy loves to read, write fiction, and run/hike with her dogs.

In January 2019, Mackenzi started working at LCHS as an Animal Care Giver. Mackenzi is currently pursing a degree in Criminal Justice and hopes to become a Police Officer one day, but she enjoys helping animals in the community find forever homes in the meantime. In Mackenzi’s spare time she enjoys planning her wedding, weightlifting, watching documentaries, and spending time with her two rescue dogs and two rescue cats.

Rhonda was drawn to work for LCHS in March of 2019, because she has a love and passion for helping animals and wanted to feel like she made a difference at the end of her work day. When Rhonda was not working in the animal welfare industry, she spent her personal time managing lost and found pet Facebook Pages, helping owners reunite with their lost pets, and also transporting animals to and from rescues. In her spare time, Rhonda enjoys spending time with her family and pets – 3 Beagle mixes and 1 kitty cat.

Sharon Sykora

Sharon started as a volunteer in August, 2008 and then became a LCHS staff member in October, 2012. Her love for animals came from spending time on her grandparents’ farm and growing up around small to large breed dogs. Sharon has 2 business degrees from COTC and Capital University. She enjoys spending time with her two cats, walking in nature, reading, and playing games with family and friends. Her favorite thing about working at LCHS is seeing an animal get adopted after a long stay at the shelter.

Raegan McCormack

Animal Caregiver

Ever since Raegan was a young child, she has admired LCHS and the work that we do. She began her journey at LCHS as a volunteer in December of 2018, and she absolutely fell in love with the animals and the staff. She was prompted to apply for a position as an Animal Caregiver, and was hired in May of 2019. She is currently studying Zoo and Conservation Science with a double-major in Biology at Otterbein University. In her spare time, Raegan enjoys hiking, kayaking, and making art. She particularly likes working with acrylic paints, wire, and macrame. Raegan has two dogs at home, a Boxer mix and a Spaniel mix.
