LCHS formed a partnership with the ASPCA in early 2023, when the shelter received its first three dogs from the ASPCA Cruelty Recovery Center. The Cruelty Recovery Center (CRC) serves animals rescued in national cruelty cases and disaster response; the dedicated CRC staff provides high quality, holistic care for animal victims of neglect, abuse, and natural disasters. ASPCA staff members brought three Dachshund-mix dogs – Squash, Pecan, and Plantain – to LCHS on February 2, 2023 so we could find them forever homes.
Squash, Pecan, and Plantain were part of a 45 dog and puppy rescue in Queens, New York. These animals were living in horribly unsanitary conditions and were suffering from malnutrition, dehydration, and multiple skin and dental diseases. The ASPCA removed the animals from this single residence in November.
The tireless ASPCA staff members at Recovery and Rehabilitation Centers across the country (including the CRC) provided care for all the dogs and puppies until they were ready to go to shelters like ours to be adopted into loving homes. Squash, Pecan, and Plantain have all been adopted and are living the happy lives they so deserve.
LCHS is honored to be part of the ASPCA’s work. Together, we will continue our mission of rescuing animals to improve lives.
