Regardless of whether you are adopting a new cat or a new dog, the first introduction between your current pet and your new pet is a very important part of the process. Here are a few steps that can help ensure a successful meeting:

Separate the Animals

► If you are adopting a new cat to your home, please follow the guidelines on the sheet titled “Bringing Your New Cat Home” to learn how to set up your new cat in it’s own space to keep separate from the resident dog.
► If you are adopting a new dog to home with a resident cat, be sure to have a crate or area ready to keep the dog away from the cat during the introduction process.
